There is a national shortage of medications that treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing problems and an increased demand in the world.

Our service can provide private ADHD testing as an alternative to waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our fees for assessments include the cost of one prescription.

Titration

A highly experienced consultant psychiatrist will conduct a thorough assessment of your ADHD. This will include an examination of your medical history as well as an assessment using the common ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.

Following your assessment you will be informed whether medication may be beneficial in your particular situation. The discussion will take place at your follow-up appointment (which could be in person, via video link or over the phone). Your clinician will explain the different options available for you to take medication and, if you decide to start on medication we will offer to titrate the dose to maximize the balance of benefits and side effects for you.

This process can take several weeks, and requires adjusting your child's dosage gradually until the appropriate balance is achieved. It is not unusual to have to titrate several times before finding the best one for your child's ADHD symptoms. Parents must be involved in this titration meaning adhd process and keep a close eye on their child's behaviour to let the doctor know whether the medication is helping or causing side effects.

If you decide to go back to NHS treatment, you will receive a private prescription for your medication. You will have to pay for ADHD medication titration your prescription at the pharmacy. This is not included in the consultation fee. You'll need to attend six-monthly appointments to monitor your medication. This includes pulse and blood pressure measurements. Annual exams are also required.

Follow-up appointments

Once the assessment is completed and you are satisfied, you can schedule follow-up appointments with the psychiatrist. The appointment is usually done through a zoom video call. However, in certain circumstances, it might be possible to have an audio-only appointment to be scheduled (again with an additional cost).

Once you have been identified as a candidate for this treatment the doctor you choose will assess you and decide whether or not you require to be titrated on medication. You will be asked to fill out forms that are different for each provider, but the most important ones are self-report forms and medical histories from childhood to adulthood. They will help your physician determine any issues that could suggest you should not take ADHD medications if they're prescribed.

If you are being titrated, the medication will consist of a mixture of stimulants and nonstimulant medicines. The combination will be carefully tested and monitored to find the most effective combination for you, taking into account any current conditions you suffer from. The titration process can be long and could require a few extra appointments before you are stable on your dose.

The frequency of your follow-up appointments will depend on the type and quantity of medication you're taking. They can be scheduled for monthly or quarterly. Your clinician will check that you are stable with the medication, document any side effects that you have experienced and make any necessary adjustments to ensure that you remain on a dose that is safe. You are required to attend an annual review as well as a regular health check-up that includes blood pressure, pulse, and weight measurements.

For some people, it may be that they are happy with their medication and don't need any further discussion on their titration. If you're looking to discuss your titration or treatment plan further it is likely that you'll be sent back to the private clinic who performed your initial assessment. In this scenario the titration is included in the consultation cost. The medication will then be administered via the private prescription. It could cost more than an NHS prescription as the pharmacy will charge for the medication.
