Private ADHD Titration

There is a national shortage of medications to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due both to manufacturing issues and an increased global demand.

Our service is able to provide private ADHD titration as an alternative to waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessment fees include the cost of a single prescription.

Titration

A thorough evaluation of your ADHD symptoms will be carried out by an experienced consultant Psychiatrist. This includes an examination of your medical history as well as an assessment using the standard ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.

Following your assessment you will be advised whether medication may be beneficial in your particular situation. This will take place at your follow-up appointment (which can be scheduled in person by video link, in person or by telephone). Your doctor will go over the various medication options available. If you decide to start taking medication, we will offer you the opportunity to increase your dosage to optimize the benefits/side-effects balance for you.

This process can take several weeks. It involves adjusting the dosage of your child's medication gradually until the proper balance is reached. It is not unusual to need to adjust two or three medicines before finding the one that is best for your child's ADHD symptoms. It is important that parents participate in the titration and keep an eye out for their child's behavior, so they can let the doctors know whether the medication is helping or causing adverse effects.

Unless you have decided to return to NHS care, your medication will be issued with a private prescription which you will need to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in your consultation fee). You must keep up with your appointments every six months to monitor your medication. This includes pulse and blood pressure measurements. Annual exams are also required.

Follow-up appointments

Once the evaluation has been completed you will be able to book follow up appointments with the psychiatrist as necessary. The appointment usually takes place via a zoom video call, although in certain cases it is possible to schedule an audio only consultation (again at an additional cost).

In this session, we'll discuss any treatment options we have and decide on a custom-made ADHD medication titration program. This will include a review and discussion of your medication dose, as well as any side effects you might be experiencing. These titration sessions cost PS150 for face-toface sessions and PS60 via telephone or video consultation. The pharmacy will charge you for any charges for medication.

The psychiatrist will also ask you about your family history and the impact that your ADHD symptoms have on your life, including any issues with relationships you may be facing or any other mental health issues you may be experiencing. This is because ADHD is a genetic disorder and it is crucial to look into any family history that might indicate whether you are at risk of developing the disorder.

It is important that you are honest and open with your doctor during this assesdetermine if there are circumstances that indicate that you shouldn't be taking ADHD medication, if they have been prescribed.

If you are titrated on medication, this will usually consist of stimulants and non-stimulant drugs. They will be carefully tested and monitored to find the best combination for you, taking into consideration any current conditions you suffer from. The titration can be a lengthy process and may require a number of additional appointments before the dose becomes stable.

The frequency of your follow-up appointments will depend on the type and quantity of medication you are taking. They can be scheduled for monthly or quarterly. This will involve your clinician checking that you are taking the correct medication, logging any side effects you've experienced, and making any adjustments needed to ensure that you're in a safe dosage. You will be required to go to an annual review as well as a routine health exam that includes pulse, blood pressure, and weight measurements.

For some individuals, it may be that they are happy with their medication and don't require an additional discussion regarding their titration adhd medications. If, however, they require further discussions regarding the titration process and treatment plan, it is possible that they will be passed back to the private clinic that made their initial assessment. In this scenario the titration will be included in the consultation cost. The medication will then be given via an individual prescription. This can cost more than prescriptions from the NHS because the pharmacy will charge you for the medication.
