Up until recently the Korean scientific community was hesitant about working with creationists due to the fear of giving the movement more credence. The silence is no longer a viable option.

The STR has been fighting to eliminate evolution-related content from textbooks, including the discovery that the feathered Archaeopteryx was an ancestor bird. This is only one aspect of how the development paradigm has changed.

What is Evolution?

The theory of evolution is a scientific one that explains the changes in genetic characteristics of living organisms over time. The theory is based upon the fact that living creatures adapt to their environment, which can lead to variations in genes or whole genomes. Over time the changes could result in the emergence of new species. The predominant theory of evolution is natural selection, which explains the process that allows people with advantages survive and reproduce more frequently than those with disadvantages. This differing reproduction may be a catalyst to the creation and 에볼루션 코리아 evolution of new species.

The term "evolution" originates from the Latin word for unraveling or revealing, 에볼루션 however the concept itself has had many different meanings since it took form in the fields of science and other fields. Early evolutionists like Erasmus Darwin (Charles’s grandfather) and Jean Baptiste de Lamarck believed that species were predestined to evolve into a different species. The term"transmutation" was coined by Lamarck's student, embryologist Etienne Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire to describe this idea. Charles Lyell, in his Principles of Geology, published in 1833, attacked the concept of evolution and borrowed the term from Geoffroy's student.

Recently, evolutionary biologists have defined evolution as a process that occurs when living things develop characteristics that increase their chances of survival, or [Redirect Only] their ability to produce offspring. In time, genetic variation can lead a population to acquire new physical traits or biological functions. Such a shift in gene frequency is called natural selection, and is the primary driver behind evolutionary changes. Non-genetic changes, such as an increase in muscle mass due to exercise or diet, cannot be considered to be evolution since they don't pass on to the next generation.

Despite the fact that evolution has stood the test of time and a multitude of scientific studies, creationists have seized on the idea that the theory is controversial and argue that it should not be taught in schools. In South Korea, creationists won some victories against evolution in textbooks for high school. This includes the removal of all references to the evolutionary roots of humans and Archaeopteryx - a feathered dino that is believed to be the ancestral bird's first ancestor.

Why is Evolution Important?

Evolution explains the origins and evolution of Earth and 에볼루션코리아 all living scientists believe in the theory of evolution. This belief is based on various reasons. Certain scientists are studying evolution to discover practical solutions such as the development of new medicines and other treatments, while others use it to improve the quality of animal and plant species, mostly to benefit humans. Some are simply curious, whereas still others have a deep religious belief in God and seek to know how the universe works.

What is Creationism?

Creationists are those who believe that God created the universe and all that is in it. They also believe that the Bible is the word of God and should be taken as such. While not all creationists are Christian however, many are. Creationists generally fall into one of two categories: Young Earth creationists (YEC) and old earth creationists (OEC).

The most popular kind of creationist is called the YEC. They believe that God created the universe exactly in the manner described in the Bible. YECs hold that the biblical account of the first six days of creation is literal and that the universe and life on Earth were only created recently.

OECs are not as well-known However, 에볼루션 they are as passionate about their beliefs as YECs. OECs believe that the universe and life on Earth are billions of years old and they believe that evolution is a myth.

Both forms of creationism deny the scientific theories that biogenesis and natural selection can explain how life came to be on Earth. They argue that evolution is impossible because it requires a miracle, and that the founders of modern science rejected miracles out of fear that they would lose credibility.

Some creationists accept naturalistic evolutionary and special creation and consider their views to be "theistic evolution." It is sometimes referred to as "continuous creationism" or "evolution from the created species." In this belief system, God creates the original species, and then allows them to evolve over time. These evolutionary changes eventually will result in new species that are similar to the original.

Some creationists believe that God created all living things and the universe in one event known as the Great Flood. They believe that all the original species were created at the same time and that they gradually evolved. They also reject the concept of abiogenesis and argue that the emergence of self-replicating organisms from nonliving matter is unattainable.

In general, the creationists are against teaching evolution at schools. Numerous professional organizations such as the National Science Teachers Association and the Association for Science Teacher Education are in support of this view as do the American Anthropological Association and the Geological Society of America. However, certain scientists and educational institutions are more flexible, and allow the inclusion of both evolution and creationism in their curriculum.

What is Creationism?

When people think of the concept of creationism typically think of the United States. However, South Korea is also the home of an anti-evolutionist movement. The publishers of high-school textbooks recently announced that they would eliminate the mention of evolution in their books. The Society for Textbook Revise, an independent body that is an offshoot from the Korea Association for Creation Research (KACCR), has led this campaign. STR has secured its first victory by taking away instances of the evolution of the horse as well as an avian ancestor, called the Archeopteryx in textbooks. The focus is now on removing snippets of Darwin's infamous finch research and on human evolution too.

STR claims to have the backing of 4,000 families and members. The goal, according to STR is to cleanse the world of what it calls "atheist materialism" which paints a negative view for students. It also hopes to combat the influence of American creationists in the United States. A survey of students in biology revealed that half of them didn't believe in evolution. The reasons for this aren't entirely clear, but could include religious beliefs or the absence of creation scientists in the country.

The KACR has achieved a number of things through its seminars and lectures. It publishes a bimonthly news magazine, Creation, and has published books. One of them was an educational textbook on natural sciences with a creationist stance. It sparked interest among college communities. In 1991, a professor, along with a minister began teaching Creation Science at one university. It is still taught to students today.

On August 6 and 7, 1993, coinciding with the World Expo opened in Daejeon, KACR held a second International Symposium on Creation Research. Six lecturers from around the world including ICR's John Morris, Duane Gish, and Steven Austin spoke to audiences of a few thousand. KACR and its members have been delivering lectures on creation science in major seminaries, too. KACR plans to establish a Creation Science Education Center in the future.
