The STR has been fighting to get information about evolution from textbooks including the discovery that the feathered Archaeopteryx was an ancestor bird. This is just one aspect of how the concept of development has evolved.

What is Evolution?

Evolution is a scientific theory that explains the change in the genetic characteristics of living organisms over time. The theory is based on the fact that living things adapt to their environments which can result in changes in genes or even complete genomes. These changes can over many generations lead to the emergence of new species. The predominant theory of evolution is known as natural selection, which describes the process through which people with advantages survive and reproduce more often than those with less favorable characteristics. This differential reproduction can eventually lead to the creation and evolution of new species.

OECs are less well known, but they're just as committed to their beliefs as YECs. OECs believe that the universe and life on Earth are billions of years old, and that evolution is an untruth.

Both types of creationism deny that scientific principles like natural selection and abiogenesis can explain the origins of life on Earth. They argue that evolution isn't possible because it would require an extraordinary event, and that the pioneers of modern science shied away from miracles due to fear that they would lose credibility.

Some creationists believe in naturalistic evolution as well as special creation, and call their view "theistic evolution." This is sometimes known as "continuous creationism" or "evolution from the original species." The theory suggests that God creates original species and then allows these to evolve over time. These evolution changes will eventually result in new species that are similar to the original.

Some creationists believe that God created all living things and the entire universe in one event known as the Great Flood. Creationists believe that all the species of the beginning were created at the same time and then gradually evolved. They also reject the idea of abiogenesis and claim that the creation of self-replicating organisms from nonliving matter is not possible.

In general, the creationists are against teaching evolution in schools. This is a position that is backed by a myriad of professional associations such as the National Science Teachers Association, the Association for Science Teacher Education and the American Anthropological Association, and the Geological Society of America. What is Creationism?

When people think of the concept of creationism most often, they think of the United States. South Korea also has an anti-evolutionist group. A group known as the Society for Textbook Revise (STR) is an unofficial body that is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research which is the driving force behind the campaign. The focus is now on removing snippets of Darwin's notorious finch research and on human evolution too.

STR claims to have the support of 4,000 families and individual members. The goal, according to STR is to cleanse the world of what it calls "atheist materialism" which paints an unflattering image for students. It also seeks to counter the influence of American Creationists in the United States. A survey of undergraduates studying biology revealed that half of them did not believe evolution. The reasons for this aren't entirely certain, but could be related to religious beliefs or the absence of creation scientists in the US.

The KACR accomplished a number of things through its lectures and seminars in the past. It publishes a bimonthly news magazine, Creation, and has published books. One of these was a textbook on natural science with a creationist stance. It sparked interest among college communities. In 1991 the year 1991, a minister and professor began teaching Creation Science in one university, and it is taught until today.

On August 6 and 7, 1993, KACR hosted a second International Symposium on Creation Research. It was held in conjunction with the opening of the World Expo in Daejeon. Six lecturers from around the world including ICR's John Morris, Duane Gish, and Steven Austin spoke to audiences of a few thousand. KACR members and KACR have also presented lectures on creation science in prestigious seminaries. KACR plans to establish a Creation Science Education Center.
