French Door Refrigerator With Ice Maker Review

Combining form and function, French-door refrigerators offer elegant double doors that open to an expansive non plumbed fridge french door on the top and a freezer drawer below. Special features such as through-the-door dispensers, ice machines with higher-end features and adjustable flex drawers make them stand out from the rest.

We asked Ladina Schopf - interior designer, architect and the founder of LS Projects - for her advice on how to choose the right home. We looked at storage capacity, layout and energy efficiency, among other aspects.

GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

As the name suggests, GE's Profile series is targeted at the consumer who wants to incorporate cutting-edge technology in their kitchen. This fridge is loaded with them all including the Keurig K cup coffee maker on the door, to a clever dispenser of water. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. The refrigerator is expensive and I expected more.

Aside from that blip, this fridge is a great choice. It comes with a huge freezer compartment, which is uncommon in counter-depth French door refrigerators. Furthermore, it can hold a decent amount of frozen food as compared to similar models.

The fridge comes with 17 shelves and compartments. The fridge compartment offers 18.5 cubic feet of space, which is about what you would expect from the size of a French door fridge that costs this much. It also has a decent sized ice maker packed into the left-hand door, although it's not the biggest I've seen.

You can alter the shelves in both compartments for an individual storage solution. The interior design of the GE PYE22PYNFS also looks attractive. The LED lighting is a nice addition, and the in-door storage bins feature an additional shelf that can fold down to allow you to store items that are tall. The drawers have temperature controls so you can set them to Beverage, Meat, or Deli settings. The drawers are easy to open and close however I found the textured plastic coatings a bit hard on my fingers.

The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator is equipped with a all the features you'd expect from a fridge at this price, including Wi-Fi and app support via GE's SmartHQ software. The app, which is available for iOS and Android devices allows you to control your fridge from anywhere in world, and has a ton of customization options. It will also send you notifications when the door is unlocked, when the freezer or fridge must be defrosted and when the filter requires a change.

It would be nice if the GE PYE22PYNFS had Precise Fill it's an option in other GE fridges that allow you to preset how many cups of water you'd like taren't impervious to spills and could easily be damaged or stained by sharp items. It is easy to take out the trays from the fridge, but be sure to clean them regularly to prevent mold growth.

LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The LG LRFLC2706S is a great counter-depth refrigerator that packs a lot of storage space into the frame's compact size. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. The fridge features the standard French door design, with two rows of shelving with spill-capture and a set crisper drawers. The top shelf on the right can be folded to provide more space for tall items. There's also a full-width drawer to store deli items and an internal water dispenser.

The refrigerator comes with an ice maker, making it easy to move the frozen ice as needed. The freezer also features thoughtful design features, like sliding drawers that help you organize your items. It also has a large bin that holds plenty of frozen food items and a separate container for storing ice.

Another awesome feature of this refrigerator is its Smart InstaView panel. It lets you control the fridge's temperature, lighting, and more from your smartphone. It's a simple way to keep track of your fridge and manage it, especially when not at home.

But while the Smart InstaView is a neat feature, it doesn't add to the overall performance of the refrigerator. This fridge took longer to defrost food and chill it than some others we tested. This is likely due to the greater capacity.

The other issue we have with the door of this refrigerator. They have handles that are french door fridges good sunken on the front that allow smaller people to pull them open from the bottom, but they're not easy for taller people to guide shut without slamming them. It would have been much better if they came with a front-mounted handle.

The LG Counter-Depth MAX fridge is an excellent option for those who want to combine the aesthetics of a French-door refrigerator with a more efficient design. Its capacity is above average for a counter-depth model and it cools evenly and has a great layout. It's also a little less than the top counter depth refrigerator that comes with an icemaker, which makes it a great option.

Frigidaire Counter Depth french door fridge freezer sale Door Refrigerator

This Frigidaire french door fridge with water dispenser door refrigerator is a good option if you want a French-door fridge that doesn't break the budget. It's a basic refrigerator that may not be as attractive as its rivals however, it does have enough features to make a good option. Its most important characteristic is the adjustable temperature drawer that helps keep food items like veggies and meat fresher for longer. It also has a large water dispenser, as well as an excellent ice maker that operates quickly.

The "Chill Drawer", which is located above the two crisper bins, is a excellent feature. The drawer allows you to divert some of the refrigerator's cooling power directly into this area, which means you can store foods that need extra attention. You can alter this feature by using the slider located on the in the middle of the drawer. You can also set the general cooling settings for the entire fridge. I've found that the generic settings are more effective than the specific ones.

During my tests, the temperature of the refrigerator were fairly constant across the different areas of the fridge. The temperatures in the top, bottom and middle of the refrigerator did not differ significantly from 38 degrees. This is a great performance however it doesn't rank among the best in our rankings.

This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. You can also combine this fridge with an intelligent thermometer to get more precise readings of your fridge's internal temperature.

The Frigidaire FGHB2866PF's exterior is made of stainless steel with a grey-bodied body that has a "smudge-proof" finish. It does a great job of repelling fingerprints and streaks even when compared with glossier stainless steel finishes on other appliances I've tested.
