It is possible to add other cleaners (such as vinegar) to the tank of the robot however, we don't recommend it unless it's been recommended by the manufacturer. This can damage your robot and void the warranty.

Cleaning the Drip Tray

If your robot mop and vacuum combo has a dock on its own which doubles as a water tank, it will have to be cleaned on a regular basis. The dock can accumulate dirt, grit and other debris that must be cleaned and removed after the mop is finished. A majority of our choices have self-cleaning cycles that you can use the app or a button on the mop itself. This helps keep the tank clean and prevents mildew.

It is also important to wash the area of the dock in which the pads are cleaned. If the area is left wet, it may be slimy and smell. If your model has disposable or washable mop pads make sure you are washing them in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions between cleaning cycles. The same is true for models with a hybrid mop/vacuum that have brushes on the sides and bottom of the unit. Take the brushes out and clean them with a rag or cloth after each cleaning cycle.

This will keep dirt and grime from blocking the sensors, which can cause them to make incorrect judgements.

While many robot mops and vacuum cleaners require a bit of work on a regular basis, they offer big advantages to the busy homeowner. They will keep floors looking beautiful and reduce the need for heavy lifting and help you save the most valuable resource of a home -- your free time.

While there are a few startups that are working to develop better robot vacuum-mop units, they have some way to go before they can reach our level of quality. But we expect these robots to improve over time, just like all other robot vacuum that mops vacuums have in the past.

When you are looking for a robot vacuum that vacuums and mops mop or vacuum, ensure that it comes with the features you need. While all models push pads with water over floors, some include a scrubber that can be used to clean grout, or an inclined brush roll to provide more intensive scrubbing. Some models have a filter that can be cleaned or replaced to lessen the smell.

Some mopping robots dispose of their dirty pads and drop them into a base that empties into a waste drawer, making it unnecessary to wash the pads manually or refill the tank.
