It is possible to upgrade armor items to improve their performance. This will increase the defense base of a helm or chest as well as belts and gloves. The upgrade template for a weapon shows the new stats it will get when upgraded in addition to their relative values. Upgrades are a cheaper alternative to buying a new trinket. It can be done by the player for as little as 12 tokens. The new trinket will have the same base level as the previous trinket however, it will also come with an additional bonus of 1% upgrade.

Once the old Trinkets are no longer usable, they can be upgraded. This allows a player to increase both their power and value with time. They can also be traded between players, making them an extremely popular alternative to gold.

In general players should upgrade their most important items first. This means that the top-in slot items for each class are upgraded first before their secondary gear and finally other pieces of equipment they will not replace in the near future (such as an earring or a cloak). Players should also take into consideration their class's preferred stats when deciding the items to upgrade.
