Hey everyone! Just got back from the Apple Store with the new iPhone 11 Pro and the iPhone 11 Pro Max. You know what that means—time for a durability drop test! Apple claims these are the world's most durable smartphones, featuring the toughest glass on both the front and back, made with a new technology. I’m eager to see how these claims hold up in real-world scenarios.
My iPhone 11 Pro already had a bit of an adventure. It was dropped at the Apple Store and sustained a mild bump, but it's all part of the testing fun. This year’s iPhone feels different right out of the box. The packaging now only has plastic on the front, and the matte finish on the phone is thicker and heavier compared to the iPhone XS. Apple has even relocated the logo, a bold move that shows their confidence in their design.
Unboxing and First Impressions
The iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max feel robust and substantial. The design tweaks, like the circular plastic packet inside the box, are a testament to Apple’s attention to detail. These phones are heavier, which will play a role in the drop test outcomes. The lenses on the camera are slightly less raised, but they are made of the same tough glass, which should be interesting to test.
Before diving into the drop tests, I want to announce a giveaway with Aaron from Mr. Who's The Boss. We’re giving away four iPhone 11s and four iPhone 11 Pros. Details are in the description below, so check it out!
The Drop Tests Begin
We’ll be conducting a series of drop tests from various heights, starting with waist height, then head height, and finally from nearly 10 feet. We’ll drop the phones on their sides, backs, and fronts to see how they hold up.
Waist Height Drops
Side Drop:
iPhone 11 Pro: Dropped from waist height, it survived with only minor scratches on the stainless steel edges.
iPhone 11 Pro Max: Similar results, a slight dent but otherwise unscathed.
Back Drop:
iPhone 11 Pro: The lenses took a hit but remained intact.
iPhone 11 Pro Max: Again, no significant damage.
Front Drop:
iPhone 11 Pro: Face down, it jumped slightly but showed no damage.
iPhone 11 Pro Max: Same outcome, no cracks or scratches.
Head Height Drops
Side Drop:
Both phones survived the impact without major issues. The iPhone 11 Pro’s SIM card tray even popped out, a first in my tests, yet the glass remained intact.
Back Drop:
Both phones’ rear glass held up remarkably well, with no cracks even after repeated drops.
Front Drop:
Both phones hit the ground hard but did not break. This reinforced my belief in Apple’s claim of the world’s toughest glass.
Extreme Drop Test: 10 Feet
Now, it’s tn perfect working order.
Feel free to ask any questions or share your thoughts in the comments below. Until next time, peace!
