The mopping arm is placed on top of the unit until it is able to detect hard floors, and then lowers to begin scrubbing. It is able to move slowly and with care over surfaces to ensure that it doesn't accidentally splash wet spills or mud on carpeted areas. It does a great job of staying clear of the way of furniture, cords, and other obstacles.

The S8 MaxV Ultra, like its predecessors, has an intelligent system that can recognize household items such as pet waste and shoes using a combination of a camera and LIDAR. It also has a sophisticated feature set that lets it switch between rugs and hard, effectively remove dirt and pet hair from carpets, and clear high thresholds in rooms.

The S1 Pro's navigation and mapping capabilities are excellent, with the dToF LiDAR system in the internal unit that allows it to keep the appearance of a slim profile while offering top-of-the-line objects avoidance. It can drive close to walls without hitting them and avoiding steps, and it also automatically raises its mop when driving over rugs or short-pile carpets. It struggled a bit when it came across carpets with longer piles and also some thick, long piles of dried-on debris.

Like most robots like it, the S1 Pro comes ready to come out of the box and only requires the initial mapping run to figure out how it can navigate your home. The map will be displayed in the app, and you can add or merge rooms as necessary. You can also set virtual boundaries and no-go or no-mop zones if there's something you don't want your robot to be able to touch.

The S1 Pro is a great option for homes that have flooring of both types, since it has the ability to mop and vacuum. However its dependence on an Eufy-branded cleaning product (which is included in the box) makes it less flexible than other robots that let you create your own solutions.
